Bespoke Suits in Charleston, SC
Hand-cut bespoke suits for men and women in Charleston, made by fifth-generation tailor Thomas O’Shea. Tommy travels to Charleston for consultations and fittings, then cuts and finishes every garment by hand in his Georgia workshop.
How a commission works in Charleston
Tommy travels to you. Every suit is cut and sewn by hand in his workshop in Athens, Georgia, but the conversations and fittings happen where you are.
- Consultation. A first conversation about the occasion, the cut, and the cloth. You’ll handle English cloth from Dugdale Brothers and settle the details together.
- Measuring and pattern. Twenty-seven measurements, then a paper pattern drafted by hand for you alone.
- Fittings. Tommy returns to Charleston for fittings as the suit takes shape, adjusting it to your shoulders, your posture, and the way you actually stand.
- Hand finishing. Lapels padded by hand, the collar set, buttonholes and edges worked by eye. More than 100 hours of handwork in all.
Because travel fittings are scheduled around Tommy’s time in each city, it helps to reach out early, especially if you have a wedding date. Ask about current travel dates when you inquire.
Cloth for the Lowcountry
Charleston summers are long, hot, and humid, so the right cloth matters as much as the cut. Tommy can build in lighter-weight wools, linens, and open weaves, with a softer, less structured canvas, so a suit stays comfortable from a garden ceremony to a late dinner downtown.
Charleston weddings
Charleston is one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in the country. A bespoke wedding suit or tuxedo is made for the day and built to be worn for decades after it. Tommy can also dress the groomsmen so the whole party matches in cut and cloth.
